KALE Blog
All kale, all the time. It’s the kaleblog, a distant cousin to the famous lolcat. I don’t get it, but I like it.

Amazing Geodesic Greenhouse
This project, featured on Treehugger.com is one of the best home greenhouses I’ve ever seen. The ambitious garden was built by Jim Dunn and is totally tricked out with features. The dome is all about providing a stable growing climate. To achieve this, the location was carefully chosen to maximize exposure to the sun, and [...]

Mega Banana Trees
Dude. These banana trees are out of control! Rick Kolceski of Hydroponic Shops of America sent in these great shots. He has three stores in New York- one in Syracuse, one in Ithaca, and a brand new store that just opened this month in Albany.
I honestly can’t believe how happy those trees look. [...]

Aquaponics in Hawaii
Aquaponics is extremely popular in Hawaii. In fact, I’d say people are as aware of aquaponic methods as they are of hydroponic methods. One reason could be that the taro root is traditionally grown in water. Taro is a starchy root that thrives in water, and has long been eaten by island dwellers around the [...]

UrbanHydro’s Super Cropper
The Urban Hydroponic Growers Union is one of my favorite websites. All kinds of amazing growers post about their home gardens, including some names that should be familiar to readers of the Grow GH blog: Red-Icculus and ChuckieD! I am totally impressed with this simple AeroFlow hack- they call it the Super Cropper. So clever!

Got Bees?
The tiny honeybee can often be overlooked as an essential part of gardening. This was highlighted to me recently when my friend was discussing the giant avocado tree that has grown in her neighbor’s yard for decades. It never produced even one avocado until another neighbor on their block started keeping bees. The humble bees [...]

Agropolis- A Hydroponic Vision For Consumers
Wouldn’t it be great if we could by fresh fish straight out of the stream that runs through the local grocery store? That’s the future of aquaponics in this vision of agricultural commerce called Agropolis.

Crazy Big Basil at Fifth Season
Randall stopped by Fifth Season in Asheville, NC recently, where they had a jungle of basil blowing up a Gen Hydro Aeroflow. I am always so impressed with the yields that come from the Aeroflow. The ultra-oxygenated root zone is ideal for spurring massive growth.

Hydroponic Roof To Table
ABC News produced a nice video about a new restaurant in NYC that grows all the produce hydroponically on it’s own roof. The systems are weird, but I love the idea! The more stories like this on the national news, the better!

Vote to Give $250K To Hydro in the Gulf
You might have already heard that Pepsi is giving away tons of money to help people across the US turn their ideas for social change into reality. I tend to be skeptical when large corporations say they are helping the world, but this contest is a little different, because YOU can choose who gets the [...]

Video: Setting Up A RainForest
I am stoked to share this video from the MAKE YouTube Channel! Becky Stern set up a RainForest 318 on her rooftop in Brooklyn, NY. The video explains step-by-step how she set up her GH system, potted up her plants, and maintains a thriving garden. Plus there’s a post with more details over on her [...]

More Strawberries!!!
I have a fond place in my heart for the infamous red berry. Planted on April 1st, these Sequoia strawberries are supposed to be June-bearing. With our timing we weren’t sure if we’d get berries or not, however we have gotten quite lucky and they have returned from their dormancy with a beautiful 1st round [...]
