Do You Use Light Movers?

I’m in between turns right now, and I tend to dream about room improvements when the garden is down. In particular, I am very interested in light movers. My space is long and narrow and I know they would be the best way to optimize my garden. Gualala Robotics has a killer looking kit, has anyone out there got one? If you do, let us know how you like them in the comments. Light movers are pretty spendy, so I’m especially interested in hearing from

Natureshydroponics.com has movers for sale, and a great blog post about the reasons to use them.

I never used a mover, but some logical conclusions can be drawn.
Keep in mind that you need a more powerful bulb to get the same light to each plant. Twice the area means twice the wattage worst case (light from one end of the mover is much less intensive towards the opposite end). So a 600W mover light might replace two 400W fixed lamps over the same area. What you really gain is a better distribution. Use the best reflector you can get your hands on. The suggestion to move the light closer to the canopy to make up for the shortened exposure time, but will lessen the coverage area accordingly, in that area still might make up for the loss of exposure.
