Fox Farm was semi-organic and was the standard for organic hydro. Bio Bizz was ok, but was mediocre for results. From the buzz on the street, GO is shaping to be the best in the organic hydro market. With calmag treatment it can be the standard for coco use. With my ear to the rail, I think this is one of the most versatile and effective lines I have heard so far.

would like to know thoughts on using chemical pH adjusters with the GO lineup. It seems to me that it would be counterproductive. I recieved my free samples of GO but I don’t want to use it until I’m sure on pH. I grow in soil, and when all ingredients are mixed together, the pH of the solution is around 5.3, I would like my mix to be around 6.5, but don’t want to use chems, and hurt the microbial life. Any suggestions? Or will GO be putting out organic pH adjusters?

Are you growing in soil, or hydro? In a healthy soil, the pH is being regulated by the plant in the root zone. Don’t worry about manipulating the pH and do not use chemical pH Up or Down products with your General Organics solution. Let us know how your garden is doing!

I’m growing in hydro, and when I used the veg combined with the cal/mag it put my reservoir water solution way down. I used some up chem to stabilize it. Should I not do this in the future? Also, are there any of the solutions (bioweed, biomarine, diamond black, etc.) that I shouldn’t be using with hydro? I thought I remembered reading a thread somewhere that said not to use one or two in a reservoir because it may plug up pumps or something. What are you recommendations for hydro use? Thanks!

I’m using an ebb and flow system, with the tray filled with perlite, ebbing and flowing through hyrdroton just around the drains. The Bio line consistently brings my reservoir to 7-7.5. I recently bought an organic up and down, and I have been using that.

So, My water pH out of the tap is 7.5ish and when I add the Biothrive bloom, Bioweed, and Biobud the pH drops to about 4.5ish. Now their saying to add a mixture that acidic to the Coco coir without pH adjusting? But when I called GH today the woman I talked to said to adjust my waters pH before I added the Nutes. So I did. Adjusted to 6.0, and added the nutes, and it dropped to 4ish. Now can someone explain to me why I should go pour that into my plants that I love without adjusting pH up??? would that not just wreak havoc on them? I would like to know the hows, and whys. I’m not prone to jump off a cliff just because other people are. I would like a real reason. not just that ‘you just should” answer.
Thanx in advance for anyone who can help with this. I’d really like to use this line, but if I cant find any factual info on pH adjustment with this product I’ll unfortunatly drop the line for something else.
Thanx

When using the GO line, pH adjustment is not necessary in a biologically active soil or soilless medium. When using Coco, it’s not a bad idea to inoculate with our SubCultures M & B to bolster microbial populations. The biological activity which comes from microbial life within the medium, consumes the food provided by the GO line of products. Once the microbial digestion occurs, exudates from the fungi and bacteria are ingested by the plant in the form of food.

This is different than feeding with traditional hydroponic nutrients, such as our Flora Series. When gardening with mineral based nutrition, pH is the basis for nutrient uptake. This is because the nutrients are ionically charged, and the proper pH is necessary for root absorption of the food. This is also why nutrient strength monitoring (EC/PPM/TDS) is a good idea when using a mineral based nutrient, whether in soil, soilless, or hydroponics.

With your Coco medium, be sure to use the CaMg+. You can safely feed at 2X label recommendations for all products in the GO line, except for the BioWeed and BioBud. They are enhancement products, so be sure to follow label recommendations.

Happy Growing!

Hello Andy, Thanks for answering questions.
Should I be using Diamond Black in my Ebb and Flow with Hydroton? I am running the entire lineup except for the Diamond Black, I am using fulvic acid from the store. I have read that the diamond black clogs up the system. Is that true? Thanks!

Hello Michael Swartz,

I rep General Organics to garden shops all across the english speaking North American Continent. I tell the stores I visit that the GO feed chart does not have columns for the Liquid Diamond Black nor for the BioMarine because those two products are not intended for recirculating hydroponic systems. Liquid Diamond Black will gunk up and BioMarine will funk up such systems.

Using a clear fulvic rather than a black humic product is a wise system hygiene decision and I commend you.

All that being said, both of those products are fantastic along with the rest of the GO line; when they are used properly.

Both BioMarine and Liquid Diamond Black, when used on a one way trip into large organic media mix filled containers or raised beds deliver and make available substances both plants and their respective soil ecologies enjoy.

My hope is that you enjoy and master the full potential of your GO plant regime.—Neil

im having ph problems. My RO water is 7.0, i add the nutes for veg and it drops to 3.5-4.0. Why would i pour this acidic water in the coco without uping the ph? Pouring this water in my coco isnt going to change to 6.0 right away where i want it to be. My roots will be in the acidic solution untill the ph gradually raises. Am i wrong here?

Great product line up, don’t have anything to compare to, but this stuff is the shiz, and if it works, stick with it. I have been using GO grow, bloom, bio bud, and calmag+. I have found that the many strains I have grown like the light feeding every other watering. Outstanding results with this regimen. My water from tap sits out overnight (7.4 ph) anf after adding light feed thrive and biobud, my ph drops to low to mid sixes. I grow in soil btw. If you know the ph of your water beforehand, id definitely check it after mixing nutes, even though the chart says it doesn’t need adjustment. As for the calmag+ it gets used once during an average 60 day flower period, but that’s with my water here in central cali. Also be aware that when filling your water jugs, hot and cold waters contain different minerals in them, so I always fill with tepid water. As with any product, the feeding schedule is a baseline, until you master your strain, start light, and peroidically check your RO ph. This will help you to find any deficiences since plants absorb different nutes at different ph levels.

I guess my last post was deleted? I am using the GO line and everytime i mix my nutes the ph comes out to 3.5. Everyone says i dont need ph up with these nutes. Could someone PLEASE tell me why I should pour this acidic solution on my roots without adding ph up? It says the ph will rise on its own but, my roots will be exposed to the acidic solution while its waiting for the ph to rise. Again this is the second time i am posting this question, lets see if it gets deleted

Hello,
You can bring it up a little bit if it would make you feel better, but it really is not necessary. As soon as the microbes start to digest the ingredients in the nutrient, the ph changes. The plant and the biology in the soil create and maintain an ideal ph. From all of the tests we have done and all of the beta testers outside of GH the plants grow better when you leave the ph alone. You must be using RO or distilled water for the ph to be that low. How do your plants look? Are they healthy?

Hello growers, I have been using GO for over a year with great results. I have been experimenting with my res tank and I was wondering if the other non organic ingredients need the water ph’d. I add Si and super thrieve to every watering. Can I add these to the res and it be available to the plant. Would it be better to hand water the si and super thrieve ph’d? I have not ph’d my water for a long time and the run off is around 6.8, but my res tank is around 8. I think its magic, I enjoy not worring about my ph. After a few learning curves I wouldn’t grow any other way. The fruits are flavorful.

What if I’m using an acidic soilles such as Sunshine Mix #4 (Peat Moss) can I still get away without using PH up?

Comment from PennyWize
Time May 27, 2011 at 8:46 am

Yes, you do not want to adjust the ph with a liquid ph adjuster. If you want, you can add some oyster shell lime to the mix or scratch it in to the top of the soil and water it in. This will increase the alkalinity slowly and add some slow release calcium.
Thank you,

I have a question. I’m growing in Pro Mix Bx. Its 75% Spag Peat Moss with 25% combined Vermiculite, perilite, myocorse and lime. Im also using The GO line.
My question is with using a soiless median(Pro Mix) which has a base ph of around 4.5-5 due to the peat moss, should i be phing the nutes? I have done both and still seem to show micro deficiencies.
I have always done hydro using non organic chemicals. So i lack experience in organics and non hydro soiless growing medians.

Time June 6, 2011 at 2:44 pm

Hello,
I wouldn’t ph the nutrient solution. The G.O. is acidic, but that all changes in the root zone once the microbes in the soil start to digest it. You may want to top dress the medium with some oyster shell lime. The fact that you already added lime to the mix should help as well. Get a soil ph test kit if you want to know what the ph is like in the root zone.

I’ve been using the GO line for about a month and loving it. To add to the ph discussion I have watered without changing the PH and there where signs of slight PH lock. When PH’d with baking soda and lime for up and down respectively and Earth Juice natural up and down and those signs have disappeared. I’m using soil btw.

Um, I’m guessing I already know the answer, but nowhere on the chart does it mention if these amounts are per gallon, per liter, or what. I’m guessing per gallon, as it’s a US company. Still, that could have been a little clearer.
So I’ve innoculated with a mychorrizae strain on coco coir, and already made the mistake of correcting PH. I didn’t use much though, so I think the critter population in there will survive. Good thing I read this here. I would appreciate if they would clarify the ratios on feeding tho. Thanks!

Ok a update I have since stopped PHing since posting and PHd my soil it was 6.5 around perfect and those signs have disappeared. I think it was because I ws phing in the beginning with a liquid solution. Thanks GH for a great product. Also trying out RapidStart. But i have a question about that. Would it suite organics to use sub-b and m instead of the rapidstart or safe to use both?

Just thought I’d add, I love the nutes. I know that you guys (meaning GH) say not to worry about pH, but I started out in hydro and can’t help it. I found a nice organic fix though. I now bubble them w/ a teensy amount of endo-ecto/mychorrizae starter (I buy mine locally but anything organic w/ active mychorrizae should do) for just over 24 hours. I’ve noticed there is a real sweet spot with the micro-herd raising the pH over time. Usually right around 26-28 hours, I see a nice head of foam build up, and I know it’s “brewed”. My plants LOVE the nutes this way, and I’m happy b/c the pH is manageable now w/o chemicals or fear of putting something acidic on young cuttings. Great product! Love how the additives in the “GO” box mesh w/ the system overall.
