May Flowers-Cornflower
The saying goes, April showers bring May flowers. This year we’ve had almost 2 inches of rain so far in May, and the flowers blooming at General Hydroponics love it. This week I will be sharing the different flowers growing here. The first featured variety is Centaurea cyanus, commonly known as Cornflower, or Bachelor’s Button.
This is the traditional blue cornflower.

Here is a pale lavender version.

This one is pink.

It used to be worn by young men in love- The flower got it’s name because it was a common weed that grew in between crop rows- The flower is the national flower of Estonia- The blue color has it’s own Crayola Crayon- The flower can be an herbal remedy that soothes and heals the eye- It is considered endangered in it’s native habitat of the UK
