Lettuce!

Remember these starts? They have grown tremendously in the last week!

So much color in the Greenhouse

It seems like every plant is in full bloom.

Reminder: Store your meter probes in distilled water

I’ve always stored the probes for my EC meter in distilled water. But I recently met a grower who had some issues with the strength of his solution. I asked how he stored the meter, and it turns out he wasn’t keeping the probes in water, and when the meter was replaced and stored properly, [...]

Tiny Basil Sprout

In a rapid rooter plug, in hydroton, in a basket, in an Aeroflow.

Tomato Blossoms

These blossoms are so pretty! From the large greenhouse, in an ebb and flow, getting some test food and supplements.

Make: Magazine Garden Controller Project

I’m getting ready to attend the Maker Faire at the fairgrounds in San Mateo this weekend. The event is a massive DIY festival with robots, explosions, and things like the world’s largest tesla coil. One big sensation from the Maker Faire was the Botanicalls plant twitter system that I recently blogged about. I also met [...]

Figs

There is a black mission fig tree here at GH, and the figs are looking plump. They are not yet ripe, but they look great. I wrote about my favorite salad, using grilled figs and speckled trout lettuce, back in the winter. Click here to read the recipe.

Hydroponic Pea Blossom

I love the pretty pea flower growing on this vine. It’s in an ebb and flow tray, and getting fed a new experimental food.

A MacArthur Genius and his Family Grow Urban Food

Our sales rep Jessica Lilga sent me a great link to a yes! magazine article about a MacArthur Foundation Genius Grant winner who created a producing farm. The story is very inspiring.
Read the story here.

Sunflowers

It’s always amazing to me how quickly sunflowers grow. These are sitting in an ebb and flow tray, and are getting Nova Series. And they look great.

Filling Up

The GH greenhouse is getting packed with plants. Some are experiments, some are ornamentals. Some are experimental ornamentals. Every day I go by the greenhouse, there is something new going on.

Spring Clean Your Grow Room

Nothing prevents garden problems like a clean space. When growing indoors, your plants rely on you meet their every need. Light and water are obvious, and they often overshadow the importance of air quality, sterile surfaces, and non contamination techniques. While you might be aware that these are essential to success, spring is still the [...]

The lilies finally opened!

I’ve been watching the asiatic lilies since they were first planted, and today when I came in, I saw they had bloomed. They are so beautiful. They have really thrived in their Coco Baskets. I can’t wait to see what other colors will appear.
Click here to see their start.

It seems sometimes that the longer a [...]

New Lettuce and Basil Starts

Darek, our greenhouse operator, is getting some fresh starts going for some new experiments. He stuck some seeds into the Rapid Rooter trays, and they are sitting in the ebb and flow until they are ready for transplant.
