Mushrooms in the Parking Lot

GH has a back parking lot where the hillside is mulched with bark. I found these clusters of mushrooms growing there. Mushrooms have always seemed like a winter time thing, but the more I learn about them, I’ve come to realize that there are spring and summer ‘shrooms too. Our sales rep Jessica has a copy of the mushroom bible, Mushrooms Demystified, by David Arora to try to identify them today.

Not plant, not animal, weird, isn’t it? I wonder why the medicinal benefits of mushrooms (Shiitake, Reishi, Lions Mane to name a few) are so unknown in addition to their beauty. You might want to have a look at the mushroom growers bible “Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms” by Paul Stamets.

Even if they aren’t edible, I love figuring out what species they are. Ragnar is right that anything by Stamets is the standard in the mycology field.

Its an Agrocybe of some sort, identifying the specific Agrocybe is like finding a needle in a haystack though.

BTW the resident engineer says Hi guys!
