Green Spirit Hydrogardens
I love graffiti art, it’s actually an obsession of mine. So I was especially stoked to see that Green Spirit Hydroponics in South Carolina created a sick Gen Hydro themed mural for their store.
The artist is named Aero, and the painting he did is enormous, 15×20 feet. It’s a picture of Ganesh, a Hindu deity that is [...]

Daystar Reflectors
I was talking to Ivan today about hoods. I’ve been having some issues with hot spots, and I really want to upgrade. I thought the answer would be a parabolic hood, with no corners, but both Jessica and Ivan were like, NO! Ivan showed me his favorite hood, the Daystar. He loves it because the [...]

Hydroponic Art
I first met Philip Ross at the Maker Faire in San Mateo. He was displaying an orchid, growing in a glass chamber under LED’s. I couldn’t really take my eyes off of it. His work is stunning, and confounding at the same time. Visit his website for more amazing naturally inspired sculptures.
Check out this short video [...]

Instructables
Instructables is a really cool website with step by step projects for every kind of hobby. Today I found a neat hydroponics tutorial. Don’t get me wrong, I obviously think that using a system from GenHydro, like the WaterFarm, is a way better method. But what I like about this web page is that it’s a great example [...]

DIY Bio Filter
I have always used a bio filter as a way to promote a healthy, algae free resevoir. But I learned from Lawrence Brooke that bio filters actually improve the health of the plants too. Essentially, a bio filter is an enviroment that supports an ecosystem of beneficial microbes. If you establish a colony of beneficial [...]

Crazy Cool Mushroom
Lawrence Brooke, our fearless leader, noticed a strange fungus growing over at the General Hydroponics organic farm, Vine Hill. It looks like it is completely consuming that dandelion!

AzaMax, What does it do?
With indoor growing becoming more and more popular every day, pests are taking over gardens more than ever before. In fact, most indoor growers in my area are reporting pests in their crops. It used to be just spidermites that took over. Now fungus gnats and thrips are gaining ground here as well. Pests can really [...]

Policies that will shape our future!
The future is now! No matter what your personal politics are, (Disclaimer: I’m a Libertarian) Barack Obama’s presidency is going to affect your life. Hopefully for the better. As a gardener, a home hobby indoor farmer, and a citizen who believes in fair accessibility to medicine, I had to check out some of Obama’s planned [...]

Pro Gardening Systems
Today I checked out Pro Gardening Systems. I first learned of their store when I saw they were sponsoring the Harmony Festival last summer. It’s so great to see a grow store get involved with their community and the music and festival scene.

Guerrilla Gardening
We have all seen dead planter-boxes in front of public buildings. That bare strip of earth that runs alongside a particular sidewalk downtown? It’s also common for some towns to throw the same petunias into the same planters every year, and then without care, their lifecycle ends, leaving the spot barren. There’s never enough time or money [...]
