It’s a food weekend, where here in NorCal we celebrate with the best wines, the best companions and the best of the harvest. I thought I would share with you a bounty of mushrooms. They were grown by Tom Gronek from Let it Grow in Arcata and he grew them from scratch, in an all [...]

Soccer (Fútbol) Rain or Shine
It’s been drizzling all morning in Sebastopol. Despite the weather, the game must go on. Soccer, or fútbol, is very popular at here at Gen Hydro. Every lunch break, and even every fifteen minute break the field is filled.

Hydro in the news
Here’s a great article I found on Yahoo about hydroponics. The article mentions some fantastic concepts that hydroponics makes into a reality, such as a vegetable producing rooftop garden, greater water efficiency, and schools making a profit selling lettuce to local business. Check it out, click here.
Plus, one more interesting article about gleaning. It describes a farm [...]

EC vs. PPM
EC stands for Electrical Conductivity, PPM stands for Parts Per Million. They are the two common scales for measuring nutrient strength, But what is the real difference, and which one is better? I asked two different people in the office, and they explained their preferences to me, one prefers PPM, while the other uses EC.
PPM: [...]

CocoTek
Last week we had a comment from Cassie, where she described some bulbs she planted in a glass with stones. She was wondering what the best media would be for something like that, and I wonder myself. I do know that bulbs are great for inert media, because the bulb itself contains all the energy [...]

Root Hairs
I checked on my cuttings today and was pleased to see that they look incredibly vital. The roots look great compared to last week. They are much more sturdy looking, and some of them are covered in root hairs. Root hairs are single cells that are very long and can be seen with the naked eye. [...]
